Saturday Sports Round-Up: UFC 143, Leafs, NLL...

UFC 143 - was a big disappointment.

Nick Diaz takes on Carlos Condit for the interim UFC welterweight title and the chance to take on GSP for the title.

Diaz was a big disapointment. He tried to bully Condit and really took the fight to him but couldn't do any significant damage.

As the fight went on, Condit picked up momentum and was able to land kicks and punches and then evade Diaz.

Diaz was doing a lot of taunting. He should learn a lot from this fight and mature as a fighter, but after the fight, being a sore loser, Diaz said "I've had enough of this shit, i'm out." So it appears he is done with fighting. But I have a feeling we'll see him again. He just needs to grow-up some.

The fight of the night was in the preliminaries where middleweights Rafael Natal (14-3) vs Michael Kuiper(12-1) brawled the entire three rounds.

Kuiper was fighting from his back for the entire first round Natal had five takedowns in the first.

In the second round, the fighters come out swinging, going toe-to-toe, and a boxing match breaks out.

Both fighters land some solid punches and Natal scores another takedown at the end of the round.

Round three, Kuiper comes out and lands a power punch that sends Natal to the mat. Natal looks like he is in trouble as Kuiper pounces on him and starts swinging.

Natal looks like he is in a heap of trouble but he is able to hang-on and reverse positioning and takes down Kuipers and puts him in a triangle choke. Kuipers holds on and this one goes to the score cards.

Natal gets the unanimous decision because of his takedown domination and gives Kuipers his first MMA loss.

Knockout of the night goes to middleweight Stephen Thompson, the young karate fighter who nailed Dan Stittgen with a round-house kick to the head, at the end of the first round that Stittgen didn't even see coming. Thompson looked brilliant in his UFC debut improving to 6-0 as an MMA pro.

Ed Herman upsets undefeated Clifford Starks with a brilliant rear-naked choke in the later parts of the second round.

Josh Koscheck got the split decision over Mike Pierce in a boring match that saw fighters do a lot bear hugging.

Renan Barao gets the unanimous decision over Scott Jorgensen.

Big Country Roy Nelson, eats too many knee's and punches against a superior Fabricio Verdun. This is a unanimous decision for Verdun. Nelson is bloodied but doesn't quit - a lot of heart.

NHL - Maple Leafs spank the Senators 5-0.

Reimer makes 49 saves for the shut-out and the Leafs score two on the power-play.

Lupul now has 54 points on the season, adding two assists last night, surpassing his career high 53 set in Anaheim.

NLL - Rock roll over Philadelphia 15-6 last night.

Orangeville's pride and joy, Josh Sanderson had 3 goals and six assists. Stephan Leblanc had four goals and Garrett Billings had eight assists.

The Rock despite going 0-2, have now won their last three games. The Rock host Philly Saturday Feb.18th at 7:00 p.m. in Toronto.
