Top 3 Sports Stories for Saturday Feb. 11
NHL - The Maple Leafs honoured their great captain #13 Mats Sundin. A player for whom the media in Toronto always gave little credit. The silence of critics can stay put, the proff of greatness is his banner hanging up high in the rafters of the ACC in between Maple Leafs greats George Armstrong and his fellow countryman Borje Salming.
It was reported that Leafs head coach Ron Wilson suggested to his team that if the guys wanted to honour Mats, the best way to do that would be by winning 2 points.
The best the leafs could do was hit two posts in the final 10 minutes of the game. The Leafs should of seen about finding Sundin some skates and putting him back in the line-up.
The Montreal Canadiens scored 5 goals and Carey Price turned aside 38 shots for this fourth shutout of the season and the 16th of his career.
Premiership Soccer
Manchester United hosted Liverpool and Wayne Rooney scored the teams two goals in a span of 4 minutes, lifting his team to a 2-1 narrow win. Liverpool were coming on strong but just came up short.
Before the game Liverpool star Suarez, refused to shake Man. U's captain Patrice Evra's hand before the game. Suarez pulled his hand back as he passed and Evra grabbed his forearm but Suarez just kept walking past.
Things continued to boil as Suarez hoofed the soccer ball into the stands as half in a bizarre move. To boot, after the game, Evra celebrated emphatically in front of Suarez and the refs had to take control and create space as some of the Liverpool players gathered to defend their player.
Strange game and strange behaviour from both clubs - they should act their age not their shoe size. But coming from a bunch of players who need to get carried off the field on a stretcher when they apparently hurt their ankle, it doesn't surprise me.
NBA-Linsanity
There might be no better story than that of Asian American Jeremy Lin's rise to fame. Scoring in heaps coming off the bench to help spur the Knicks and lead them on a five game win streak.

Giants win Super Bowl 46
What a crazy season: Giants first 9-7 team to win the Super Bowl
The Patriots suffered a safety on their first possession and the Giants Victory Cruz finds the end-zone for an end-zone dance there after and the Giants find themselves with a nine nothing lead.
The Patriots came out of the gate a little flat but they were able to build some momentum and put together a 14 play scoring drive to end the second quarter and go into halftime with a 10-9 lead.
The Giants got lucky today, (but you have to be good to get lucky) as they fumbled the ball twice. Hakeem Nicks fumbled the ball but the play was nullified as the Pats had 12 men on the field and on the second time Cruz dropped the ball but the Giants were able to recover.
Nicks had a great game offensively grabbing 10 catches for over 100 yard receiving, while
Mario Manningham had five catches for 77 yards, all in the second half.
The Giants defence came up big sacking Brady five times (just like in 2008): Justin Tuck could of been the MVP, he had 2 sacks in this one.
Tom Brady was almost perfect except for the intentional grounding in the end zone for a safety and the interception pass to Rob Gronkowski.
Eli Manning had a perfect game and threaded the needle to Manningham on a 32 yard perfect pass up the sidelines.
I thought Gronkowski was just a shell of the player he could of been today and that hurt the Pats more than he helped them. He probably could of had someone play in his place, he was not effective.
The Pats dropped some passes at the end of the game which they should of brought in.
All in all a great game, it once again comes down to the wire.
Saturday Sports Round-Up: UFC 143, Leafs, NLL...
UFC 143 - was a big disappointment.
Nick Diaz takes on Carlos Condit for the interim UFC welterweight title and the chance to take on GSP for the title.
Diaz was a big disapointment. He tried to bully Condit and really took the fight to him but couldn't do any significant damage.
As the fight went on, Condit picked up momentum and was able to land kicks and punches and then evade Diaz.
Diaz was doing a lot of taunting. He should learn a lot from this fight and mature as a fighter, but after the fight, being a sore loser, Diaz said "I've had enough of this shit, i'm out." So it appears he is done with fighting. But I have a feeling we'll see him again. He just needs to grow-up some.
The fight of the night was in the preliminaries where middleweights Rafael Natal (14-3) vs Michael Kuiper(12-1) brawled the entire three rounds.
Kuiper was fighting from his back for the entire first round Natal had five takedowns in the first.
In the second round, the fighters come out swinging, going toe-to-toe, and a boxing match breaks out.
Both fighters land some solid punches and Natal scores another takedown at the end of the round.
Round three, Kuiper comes out and lands a power punch that sends Natal to the mat. Natal looks like he is in trouble as Kuiper pounces on him and starts swinging.
Natal looks like he is in a heap of trouble but he is able to hang-on and reverse positioning and takes down Kuipers and puts him in a triangle choke. Kuipers holds on and this one goes to the score cards.
Natal gets the unanimous decision because of his takedown domination and gives Kuipers his first MMA loss.
Knockout of the night goes to middleweight Stephen Thompson, the young karate fighter who nailed Dan Stittgen with a round-house kick to the head, at the end of the first round that Stittgen didn't even see coming. Thompson looked brilliant in his UFC debut improving to 6-0 as an MMA pro.
Ed Herman upsets undefeated Clifford Starks with a brilliant rear-naked choke in the later parts of the second round.
Josh Koscheck got the split decision over Mike Pierce in a boring match that saw fighters do a lot bear hugging.
Renan Barao gets the unanimous decision over Scott Jorgensen.
Big Country Roy Nelson, eats too many knee's and punches against a superior Fabricio Verdun. This is a unanimous decision for Verdun. Nelson is bloodied but doesn't quit - a lot of heart.
NHL - Maple Leafs spank the Senators 5-0.
Reimer makes 49 saves for the shut-out and the Leafs score two on the power-play.
Lupul now has 54 points on the season, adding two assists last night, surpassing his career high 53 set in Anaheim.
NLL - Rock roll over Philadelphia 15-6 last night.
Orangeville's pride and joy, Josh Sanderson had 3 goals and six assists. Stephan Leblanc had four goals and Garrett Billings had eight assists.
The Rock despite going 0-2, have now won their last three games. The Rock host Philly Saturday Feb.18th at 7:00 p.m. in Toronto.

Super Bowl 46 or XLVI (I don't care for roman numerals)
Holy cannoli its Super Bowl weekend - The Pats & Giants (a repeat of Super Bowl 42)
I have a feeling this is going to be a really close game and it'll come down to the wire. I would even bet a field goal will win this game.
The Kickers-
Pat's kicker Stephen Gotskowski was 84.8 per cent this season and Giants footman Lawrence Tynes was 78 per cent, he nailed the kick to in overtime to get the G-men into the Super Bowl.
But before it comes down to the kick it will take a quarterback to get you there. Both Tom Brady and Eli Manning are big game competitors and there maybe no better fourth quarter players than these two guys. I think Eli has the edge here, his receivers are on fire - Hakeem Nicks, Victor Cruz and Mario Manningham.
So the biggest question, which defence will be able to get to the quarter back more?
The Giants are really good at getting to the quarterback and forcing turnovers. At Super Bowl 42, the G-men were able to get in five sacks on Tom Brady and Justin Tuck had two. Tuck and Osi Umenyiora could be game changers.
The best protection against the pass rush is a strong running game. The Pats RB Benjarvus Green-Ellis will look to have a big game and TE Aaron Hernandez will have to help stop the pass rush.
The Giants RB tandem of Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs will help Eli's passing game. Green-Elis will have to do something really special.
A big question is circling around the New England's locker room is how healthy is TE Rob Gronkowski ankle?
Gronk practiced for the first time this week on thursday and it will be interesting to see what kind of shape he is in to start the game. The difficulty their is tightening up at half-time and of course Super Bowl has the extended half-time break, so we'll see how that pans out.
I am really looking forward to this game. I am going to go a pick the New York Giants to win this one 27-24.
