May 24 - Sports Recap

Long weekend, and it has been a busy one.

PGA - David Tom's has won the colonial classic, check out this shot for eagle. Remember what happened last week at the player's championship. Tom's drained an 18 foot putt to force a playoff with KJ Choi. Tom's would have a 3 putt on the first playoff hole, missing a short 3 foot putt for par allowing K.J. Choi to get the victory. Tom's was meant to win it this week. He has been playing some strong golf. His victory this weekend gives him his 13th career PGA win and his first win in 5 years.

NHL - Vancouver Canucks habe a 3-1 series lead over San Jose. Vancouver's Sedin brother's combined for 7 assists and Luongo made 35 saves in the 4-2 victory

Boston and Tampa are tied 2-2 in their series. Boston was up 3-0 in game 4 but Tampa never quit and came back and scored 5 unanswered goals. Mike Smith replaced Roloson in net after allowing 3 first period goals. Smith then stopped all 21 shots he faced.

Wrestling - Randy "Macho Man" Savage passed away in a Automobile crash. It was reported Savage suffered a heart attack while driving and crashed into a Tree. His wife Lynn was in the car but she did not suffer any major injuries. Savage was one of the greatest Wrestlers of all time. His matches with Hulk Hogan go down as some of the best tilts in wrestling history.

Quiet Night in the NHL - You ever heard of the NBA?

Sports - Quiet night for Hockey. But tomorrow we have Canada vs Russia in the world cup quarter-finals at 2pm and then game 7 in San Jose vs the Red Wings. I predict Russia will win the world cup game and the Red Wings will win it on the road. They have momentum.

So with no NHL hockey tonight. For the first time in a long time I'll watch some NBA basketball.

To the NBA - The Miami Heat take on The Boston Celtics.

Miami were trailing all game and they were behind late in the 4th quarter and winning game 5 and defeating Boston 4-1 in their series. Lebron James lead a comeback scoring back to back 3's and 10 straight points, as Miami won another close game and close out the series. Miami will now await the winner of the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks series. The Bulls are up 3-2 and play game 6 thursday night at 8pm

The Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma Thunder play game 5 tonight- that series is tied 2-2.
Dallas have already wrapped up their series, sweeping the Lakers 4-0.

Detroit force game 7

Live from Detroit - NHL Playoffs

Detroit is Rocking

The Red Wings have come from behind erasing a 3-0 deficit and tie the series 3-3 forcing a game 7 in San Jose thursday May 12th

Will the Red Wings find away to win 4 straight? Or will there be a home field have advantage...

The Red Wings fans were loud and proud tonight. What a showing from the Detroit faithful. Game 6 could rank as one of the best games of the playoffs. It had it all, a few punches, some solid goaltending and back and forth, good physical hockey.

The score remained at zeros after 2 periods of play.

In the 3rd San Jose got the scoring going, it was Couture putting one past McDonald. Detroit didn't falter, and they never quit, no matter the score the were outplaying the Sharks and they kept the pressure going. Kronwall blasted one from the point and Zetterberg redirected the puck to tie the game. Detroit would score again as Datsyuk sent a pass across the crease to Fillipula who potted the would be game winner. Helm scored on the empty net to make it a 3-1 win.

Although the red wings got behind 1 early in the 3rd, they never stopped. They outshot San Jose 44-25. Datsyuk played a strong game and Cleary had a few chances, he barely missed a breakaway chance, having Niemi beat on a breakway, he had an open net and banged the puck off the post. Holmstrom had a chance cutting thru the middle, he took a wrist shot and went head over heel's-360, as a Sharks defencemen slid and took the feet from underneath .

The Sharks were missing Ryan Clowe, he missed the game with an undisclosed injury (Possible the result of a Krnowall hit at the end of game 5 - he left that game)

Franzen was out for game 6 but Detroit has the momentum.

Canucks Defeat Nashville

In Nashville -

Vancouver win game 6 and move onto the 3rd round of the playoffs. They will wait and see who wins the Red Wings/Sharks series.

The Canucks defeated Nashville by a score of 2-1. Nashville were unable to get a win at home in this series and Vancouver got on the board early scoring was Mason Raymond getting his first goal of the playoffs and Daniel Sedin had what would be the game winner on the power play just 36 seconds after their first goal. David Legwand scored for Nashville.

In net, Luongo made 23 saves, but forward Steve Tambelini made the biggest save for Vancouver, coming from out of nowhere to catch up with Nashville's Martin Erat, who was on a breakway, Tambellini caught up with Erat at the last second and muscled him off the puck and sent Erat into the goal post. It was a clean play and no penalty was called. Just a strong play from Tambelini who was replacing an injured Samuelson.

Burrows had a strong series for Vancouver. He and Weber battled it out all series. Late in the third, with about 10 minutes to go, they both battled for the puck alogside the boards near the Nashville net. They were jostling for what seemed like 5 minutes. At that point, Burrows sent the puck down deeper into the corner and as they chased the puck, Weber dropped Burrows with a big body check. Nashville gained control and carried the puck into the Canucks end. Vancouver forced a quick turnover and the puck ended back up on Burrows stick at Nasville's blueline, Burrow's just barely beat offside and he went in one on one and let a slap shot go from the hash marks but Renne was able to make the save.

Ryan Kessler was without a doubt the best player in the series, he was in on 11-of Vancover's 14 points scored. It was a low scoring series and Kessler did most of it. Nashville couldn't find away to stop him. The Canukcs have a deep roster. They have a lot of weapons. When their opponent are able to shut down a couple guys, like the Sedin's have been, someone else has to step up and that is what Kessler did - even Don Cherry would have to admit that, we'll see if he says anything, Don Cherry brushed Off Kessler on hockey night in Canada after his sidekick McClean was trying to raise a point about his strong play.

Give credit to Nashville, "they are the hardest working team in the NHL" -Luongo felt that way after the game. It is their work ethic, they dn't stop, and you get a sense they are a real family. That is just their style. They were missing a key player in Steve Sullivan. But they were also facing a superior opponent. Vancouver is the better team and they move onto the semi finals for the first time since 1994 - the year the Rangers beat them in the cup finals

Sweep, sweep, sweep..

.... I'm not talking Spring cleaning here folks

NHL Play-Offs

Tampa Bay sweep their way into the Eastern Conference Finals defeating the Capitals in 4 straight. Remember Rd 1 - After being down 3-1 in the series, the Tampa Bay Lightning rallied back and won 3 games to beat the Penguins. - The Lightning are hot, winning 7 straight games. Who will Tampa Play? The Bruins look to be that team they are one win away from sweeping the Flyers. Can the Bruins sweep? Remember last year in the Playoffs. Boston were up 3 games to none and the Flyers came back and won 4 straight to move onto the finals.

In the West, the Red Wings have not been able to gain any momentum and the Sharks lead that series 3-0.... Can they sweep?

The Brooms are out for the second round that is for sure!

In the other western conference semis Vancouver have a 2-1 series lead on Nashville.
