Peterborough- The McGill Redmen win the Baggataway Cup in overtime today at Trent University. Defeating the Western Mustangs in 7-6 in overtime.
Nearly 700 fans were on hand to witness the seasaw final at Trent's Justin Chiu stadium.
McGill started the scoring. Western answered and built a 3-1 lead. It was close and the teams traded the lead. Western down 6-4 late, came back to force OT with a last second goal.
McGill scored late in overtime to win their first Baggataway Cup. The second team from the east conference east to ever win the cup.
The trophy remains in the east and Quebec.
The defending champion Bishop Gaiters lost in the tournament quarterfinals.
The overall competitiveness in the league has improved and five different teams have won the cup in in the last five years.
